"The Learning Journey Continues on a Positive Track"

Train animation: I think I can...I think I can... "I think I can... I think I can... I KNOW I can!"

Happy Spring!

Goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo....how about you, you, you? Thank you to all the parents who are chaperoning our field trip this Thursday to the World Wildlife Zoo! We will be doing a scavenger hunt, using the concepts and vocabulary we have been studying throughout the year. Students, for example, will be searching out a nocturnal animal, a predator whose prey is a mouse, a creature from a desert habitat and a mammal with hooves. They will be counting the number of zebras in a herd, describing a giraffe's tongue, and trying to observe the difference between a newborn and adult animal. They may even spot an ostrich or emu egg!

We are looking forward to sharing our Desert Dioramas this Wednesday, as well. Using our oral language skills, students will share their expertise about the animal they've chosen that shares our desert habitat. The 3-D dioramas will contain the prey, predator and habitat of the animal, so kindergarten students use their dioramas to speak with confidence and fluency! Keep practicing your oral presentation of the FACTS this week at home!

When we are finished with the oral sharing, we take our presentations to the next level! During the next few weeks, we copy pictures off the computer of the desert animals and type in the facts from te diorams, one per slide. This culminates into a wonderful Powerpoint show that students are taught to log in and out of themselves, reading the words independently to their moms (and grandmas and aunts, too) at the end of our Mother's Day Tea, Friday, May 9th.

Donuts With Dads Dads aren't forgotten this Spring! As sent home on the homework sheet last week, we hope dads (and/or grandpas) will join us on Friday, April 25th from 1:00-2:30. We'll be woodworking as we finish our Science unit on WOOD. Dads will help us conduct experiments with floating/sinking wood, sanding, nailing, sawing and making plywood! We'll read a famous tree story while we munch on a donut and share a box of milk. Your child can't wait to share in this fun, educational afternoon!

Have you heard about our worm eggs and caterpillars? Observation is the big kindergarten standard in Science and creepy, crawly creature top the list as most fun to observe! We hope you'll stop by to see our adult butterflies before they are released in their natural habitat right after Mother's Day!font>

In Social Studies, we have recently been studying the continent of Australia. Reading and seeing computer videos of kangaroos, koalas and the kookaburra has provided ample opportunities to compare and contrast, as well as learn a few new vocabulary words...has your child told you about "marsupials" yet? If so, I'd say "Good on ya, mate!"

Start thinking about the "Class Show of Talent." On the Friday before the last week of school, May 16th students present a little of what interests them most. In the past, we have had a student magician, a drawing lesson, skateboard trick demonstrations, singing, keyboard playing, dancing, gymnastics and so much more! If you need ideas, please speak to me...there is no end to the creative talents your child might share!

Please read the homework folder daily for any new information from school. You will find information about me here on the About page.

Any current or new information about our class will be sent to you on the weekly homework sheet or in a classroom newsletter. Updates will be posted periodically on this HOME page.
