I am in my eleventh year teaching Kindergarten at Las Brisas. Thriving on the opportunties and challenges this grade level brings, I use my talents in the areas of drama and music, and post masters level educational experiences to direct an exciting, focused classroom. I am certified to teach mentally/physically challenged students, as well as have state certification in learning disabilities and emotional handicaps. I retain my principalship certification, as well. Having learned some sign language during the five years I taught hearing impaired youngsters, I use signing and my knowledge of language and speech development to enhance phonics instruction.
My most recent experience, prior to Kindergarten, was in teaching "tangled first grade readers." I had the good fortune of being trained to teach a program called READING RECOVERY, which affords the teacher advanced knowledge and supervised experience in early literacy teaching. I have drawn upon these experiences and resources to develop an organized, sequenced program for your child which takes her/him from where s/he is, building a firm foundation for further learning. I was pleased to have been chosen to present my classroom program at a southwest regional conference several summers ago and I helped lead a district class for kindergarten educators this past summer.
I seek to be a life long learner. Each year, our district asks educators to choose goals in which to improve and expand. I am eager to share new learnings I glean this year with you, as I learn them.
I am blessed to be married with two, bright daughters, a sophomore in college and a junior in high school. While we live in an adjoining district, we have chosen to educate our children here in Deer Valley at our A+ high school. We are pleased with this district's emphasis on high expectations and academic excellence.
I hope you will find me to be an accessible, compassionate person who desires to work with you as a team. It is so important to love learning from the "get go." My aim is that your child "yearns to learn" and experiences school as "way cool!"
